Activities
Americana Ranch is not your modern, ‘bustling with activity, highly commercialized dude ranch'. We are a small, family-run operation. We thought that some folks (a couple, a family, a small group, perhaps) would enjoy a wholesome atmosphere, refreshing peace and quiet, and some enjoyable, ‘feel good’ events that make for a pleasant outing, or even an overnight get-away. (This is not the place for bright lights and so-called ‘party life’!)
We can offer:
Horseback riding, for both novices and experienced riders. (Also, if you’re a ‘horse-boarding horse owner’ and need a place to ride, our land offers the ‘biggest 175 acres’ you’ve ever seen! Plus, we have both indoor and outdoor riding pens, too.) Perhaps you’d like to trail ride across quiet meadows, through beautiful woodlands, and rolling hillsides. Sort of like the way real cowboys and ranchers do! The cattle will be grazing—maybe even need to be rounded up! Maybe you can help us feed the cattle! Or milk the Jersey cow!
We have a variety of horses. Shetland ponies—ours are not the ‘ornery’ type—Paint horses, Quarter horses, Arabians, Appaloosa, and a Percheron draft horse. (The Percheron, Gus by name, pulls the covered wagon and the open carriage—not to mention the plow and disk.) Different breeds, different looks, different personalities all add to the variety of the ranch experience! New-born foals are a hit, and children always like the ‘little horses’!
Pony rides are always a hit with the children! We can keep them safe and secure in the pony corral, or lead them out on the ranch land, too. For some "Horse Talk", click here.
Tractor rides are always enjoyable! We’ll have the hay bales on the trailer and head off for a spell—the children will talk about this event for days!
For some guests, a long walk provides more therapy than they would have imagined. Call it a nature walk or a hike. The sounds of the birds, perhaps seeing a deer or two, or feeling the gentle breeze across the hills, seeing the cattle graze peacefully in the distance—these are the simple pleasures that can bring a soothing to one’s spirit.
People really enjoy family time music. We have a violin player (that’s a sophisticated word for fiddle), a piano player, a guitarist, and flute player in the family. The younger children are rapidly learning the banjo, mandolin, and bass fiddle. In a day of CD’s tapes, and videos, there is something wholesome and pleasurable in hearing live, non-electric music. Classical, sacred, folk, bluegrass, gospel—they can play a little bit of each for your enjoyment.
Accommodations
We have an attractive, fully-furnished guesthouse available—complete with large covered front porch with white rockers, vaulted ceiling, hardwood floors, and stone fireplace. The porch overlooks the pasture where horses graze near the pecan trees. And, by the way, Skeezix, the rooster can serve as your country alarm clock!
The guesthouse sleeps eight comfortably, and provides a pleasant change from city, suburb, or subdivision. (For a change of perspective, click here.) The house has a full kitchen for guest use.
The facility would be an ideal retreat or ‘get away meeting place’ for business, church, or organization planning meetings.
And, Accommodations For Your Horse...
If you are traveling this way (via I-55 or US Hwy 61) and need a place to put up for a night or two, your horse will enjoy our place as much as you will! Clean stalls, good grass, pretty pastures and some new equine friends--he'll be refreshed and ready when you get back on the road!
